BENJI, your rival has returned. I come, SEEKING THE VICTORY, OF NGMC!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKnI4U5tAXA

Time for the critique! By far this is my fave song other than my own in the competition, it’s got a good ice theme, and it’s definitely a racing theme. I’m a big fan of the guitar, is you and guitar like me and orchestral? Either wise, mixing and mastering is great! Drums could maybe be less compressed, but only a little, it still very visible. The synth guitar theme at 1:24 definitely reminds me of Mariokart in some way, while the first half sounds like Waterflame. Overall, very well done song! My biggest critique is the master volume… TURN THAT SHIT UPPPPP

Thank you so much!

Beautful, just beautiful! I’ve listened to most of the songs, and lemme tell you there is no story quite like this one, unique approaches, like, I DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO CRITICIZE!

Yeah… this is something else, in terms of the competition, not really fitting as you’ve said XD. BUT HERES YOUR SCORE

NGMC score: 3.5/5
General score: ABSOLUTE CINEMA/5

Thanks for this awesome review!

Thanks !

To be honest, even about the competition, I am very happy to produce bangers as well :)

Another frontpaged work! Nice!

The ice feeling is kinda there, but if I didn’t know this were ice competition I wouldn’t think that. A lot of unique approaches, and some catchy ass bass at 0:56. The filtered offbeat Breakcore sounds a bit well… off, could use work. The chiptune also sounds odd in this, some more mastering and mixing could definitely have been done, since at the second I can barely hear the melody or the bass over the drums. The drums are fire but the mix is definitely muddy, though I think that was intentional. It’s definitely a racing theme, a something I’d probably find in some monster truck ice track. The guitar is by far my fave part of the song, very well done!
Overall, Pretty cool and unique, but some parts such as the mixing and the Breakcore drums could’ve been pulled better.

Arponax responds:

Yeah to me that theme was more in the overall mood of the track when it comes to like upbeat or somewhat goofy/spontaneous or playful melodies...and also theres some wind too XD tho that was just a random idea i had that could add few points to that maybe.

I tried to not alter the chiptune parts too much cause i dont have much experience with it...i did a little bit of EQing and panning on it and it sounded alright so i kept it as it is.

Mixing is something i personally decided to kinda just use as a tool to achieve the sound i want since having completely clean sound feels dull to me (ofc not mentioning that it is a hard thing to do XD so maybe its a lazy thing) so my approach to that is...if im able to clean it, good but if theres a little bit of a "healthy" mud im happy with it too.

Thanks tho, it was a fun collab...cant wait for other rounds.

Xtrullor dubstep like fr has always been a fave.

The ice theme is definitely, along with the racing theme. The attempts anf experimentation is also definitely there! I like all the different approaches you made with this! It’s also better than any dubstep I can do. Mastering and mixing could definitely be improved, a lot of the instruments also don’t fit or have the same feeling as the rest of song. The piano is especially odd sounding, I say work on your mixing and instrumentation, and then I’d say it’s good to go! All it takes is practice!

Well well well, a frontpage!

Well I’m gonna start us off harsh… this doesn’t sound like a racing theme, but it’s got the arctic vibe pretty well! Yeah I get what you were aiming for here, but even in those aspects it’s just not right. But then the weird hardcore acid part comes in, which I’m guessing is @PIAHC, that’s the closest it’s sounded to a racing theme, but it doesn’t sound like ice oddly enough.
Enough with the criticism, I’ve got some good critique! Both catch the theme pretty well, just in a different yet sadly vain approach. Instrumentation is amazing, and the mastering and mixing is quite well done. The song gives a very unique approach to the theme as well, something not many have done so far. The orchestration is also really well made, though IMO it could use some depth. Not bad!
NGMC score: 3.7/5

A very unique liquid DnB I see!

The vocals fit really well, and the chopping is well made, and it definitely has the feeling of I C E. The vocals are overused a bit, and the song is a bit repetitive, but in terms of music production, those are your only problems. The mixing and mastering is well done and I’m a big fan of the choices of instruments, I’m not even sure why it’s rated so low XD. Also, this sounds more like something I’d hear on the radio, then in an ice racing game… still good though!

NGMC score: 4.2/5
General Score: 4.5/5

We think that you're criticism is quite valid. We interpreted the theme being arctic, and just as how the title implies, we are racing in a vast plain of snow, with nothing else. I am not saying this interpretation should justify to make things better, but a fun way to think!

We also thank you for taking considerate time to write the reviews! :)

Ok, I see you, “Rival”. Really nice, catchy melodies, good mixing, though theres one problem my friend.

I USED ORCHESTRAL, ORCHESTRA IS MY GREATEST WEAPON! >:)

Jokes aside, really sweet stuff, I love how loud and well mixed it is! It’s also got some really catchy melodies and nice bg melodies. Though to me it has more of a dance feel, rather then a racing feel, Only exception being the slap bass section at 1:47. Other than that, it’s a really well made track!

NGMC Score(I think we are the ones judging ourselves): 4.3/5
General Score: 4.7/5

EREDITH GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE YOUR BLOCKING THE ROAD! >:(

The entry is cool with the gated piano and instruments, and then we got the Spaze-like drum pattern and samples in the next part. The dubstep part also sounds a lot like spaze, it’s very unique and very well mixed. Odd yet fitting choice of melody for the next dubstep at 1:03, has a bit of Xtrullor now that you think of it. The repeated snares also add in a good touch of experimentalism to the track!
The gated piano is back, but now with a beautifully made string melody, though the strings I feel could have more depth, maybe add some chorus. The interesting riseback with the snares is pretty epic. The dubstep rhythm then is also superb and just fits great with the strings.
The name is very fitting, an amalgamation of different genres and styles, and just everything other then the strings chorus and depth could be fixed.
Overall, amazing track, and here is a follow for your hard work!
4.9/5 stars!

I’m a really big fan of the transitions and sample use in the beginning, it fits so well!

Bass sounds sick in this one! I love the use of the the long dubstep growl. The the crushy “yi” also sounds pretty good, I feel it could be more varied in tones, but it still sounds cool nonetheless less! Mixing is great and the overall melody is still visible through the bassy madness. The synth at 1:46 is probably one of my favorite parts of the song as I’m typing this, but then it starts speeding up, which I found a little odd for my tastes, that could be improved maybe by faster drums or a fast bass. But then it leads into a actually really sick fucking drop, love the long term bass used in this and how crunchy it is! The “LETS GO” robot sample at 2:38 is a bit hidden, I’d recommend maybe adding some velocity to it. Then just like with the synth, the odd speed change, but it gets better and more into the pads. The pads are superb, though the piano sounds a bit too compressed and hard hitting, it’s also off melody with the bassy growls at 3:05. I love the bass still, it hasn’t gotten old, I also have to admit I love how nothing seems to sound the same!
Then it gets more of a “house vibe”, I would’ve kept the bass, but made it quieter and give it some ducking or sidechaining, rather then get rid of it altogether. It gets pumping back with the bass impacts, the layers in both the first and this part are a bit to high pitched, but they fit otherwise. A lovely riser into the next house like drop. Now it’s truly getting good, I love the house and dubstep mix, and the piano here sounds really well, a major improvement from the last one, where hard hitting piano synth is NEEDED. The piano melody to end it all is incredibly fire and I wish itd go on a bit longer.
In terms of transitions, using speed wasn’t exactly ideal here, guessing it was an experiment? Mixing and mastering overall is strong, some parts feel hidden, and the samples used are really good! Toning is a bit of a problem for the extra effects in the dubstep, such as the lasers. Melodies are really good in the electronic instruments, but kinda off on the more traditional instruments, the piano for example, although it really fit in the second entrance of it.

Overall, I give it a solid 4.7/5. amazing work man!
